TierraMar provides ongoing technical, strategic and practical management advice on sustainability and fisheries conservation issues to the largest shark industry association and the largest shark quota holder in Australia. This work includes the development of a product traceability (Chain of Custody) scheme into Asia for shark and securing Marine Stewardship Council certification. We also acted as environmental advisor to a project to help the fishing industry target gummy sharks sustainably. This involved a trial of the use of auto longlines as an alternate to gill-nets, while at the same time utilising and demonstrating environmental best practices. The trial was implemented under the Commonwealth gill-net, hook and trap fishery project (FRDC Project 2011/068).
