TierraMar is working with the Hastings and Camden Haven River oyster famers in northern NSW to develop and Implement river-based Environmental Management Systems (EMS) adopting ISO 14001. Each EMS provides a mechanism for the ongoing identification and management of environmental impacts, risks and opportunities for the oyster industry. It is an industry-based initiative that seeks to contribute to the sustainability of oyster farming and the health of the Hastings and Camden Haven Rivers, as well as increase community understanding of cultivation methods and the management and regulations that apply to the industry. TierraMar has also helped the oyster farmers access the funds provided by each EMS to subsidise activities including the installation of more sustainable in-water farming infrastructure.
