Earlier this month, Claudette attended the Marine Teachers Association of Queensland (MTAQ) Annual Conference, which brought together passionate marine educators from across the state. Claudette ran a workshop focused on growing the Blue School Network in Australia and exploring how we can amplify the incredible work already happening in Queensland schools.
These teachers are at the coalface of marine education, inspiring young people, building ocean knowledge and helping students develop a genuine connection with the sea. Being part of the Blue School Network provides an opportunity to build on this work by connecting learning to action, linking classroom experiences with projects that involve local communities, create tangible change for a healthier ocean, and to amplify this work on a global stage.
The response to the workshop was hugely positive, with lots of enthusiasm for exploring what Blue School projects could look like in different schools and communities.
The next step is to see what ideas emerge, from local marine conservation projects and community partnerships to perhaps even some friendly competition between schools! A bit of fun and healthy rivalry could be just the motivation needed to get students creating solutions and taking action for the ocean.
