Through our TierraMar program, we are proud to have supported the Government of Vanuatu in the development of its National Action Plan for Seabirds, Sharks, and Marine Turtles (NPOA), which was launched earlier this month.
The NPOA is a key activity of the By-catch & Integrated Ecosystem Management (BIEM) Initiative being implemented by the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) with Vanuatu government agencies and community partners. The BIEM Initiative is a component of the Pacific-European Union Marine Partnership (PEUMP) Programme funded by the European Union & the Government of Sweden
This achievement reflects the collaborative efforts of SPREP, the Vanuatu Fisheries Department and Department of Environmental Protection and Conservation (DEPC). Together, these partnerships are driving efforts to tackle bycatch and enhance ecosystem management across the Pacific.
TierraMar has project-managed the BIEM Initiative for SPREP for the past six years, working with five Pacific nations. The NPOA is a fantastic accomplishment for Vanuatu, and we look forward to many more impactful ventures like this in the future.
