Earlier this year, our Ocean Youth Ambassadors had the unique opportunity to sit down with Academy Award-winning filmmaker, deep-sea explorer, and ocean advocate James Cameron. Best known for films like Titanic and Avatar, Cameron is also a pioneer of ocean exploration, having made the record-breaking solo dive to the bottom of the Mariana Trench in his submersible, Deepsea Challenger.

Ambassadors – Angelique Greentree, Isla Campbell and Axel Tkatchew – brought their passion and curiosity to the conversation. Representing the next generation of ocean leaders, they asked James Cameron about his journey, exploration achievements, and his vision for the future of our ocean.

The discussion explored how Cameron has woven his love of the ocean into his filmmaking, using storytelling to inspire people to care about marine life. He also shared his thoughts on the role of young people in shaping the future to safeguard the health of our oceans.

For Angelique, Isla, and Axel, it was a rare chance to connect directly with one of the world’s great explorers and hear first-hand how curiosity and passion can make a difference.
