We’re delighted to have been named a finalist in the Banksia Awards (Circular Economy category) for our circular innovation, LoopFloat.
Recreational fishing is part of Australia’s identity — but lost or abandoned gear such as crab pots and polystyrene floats can have devastating effects. Traps continue catching crabs, fish, and turtles long after they’re lost, while floats break down into polluting microplastics.
In collaboration with OzFish Unlimited and Defy Design, we developed LoopFloat, Australia’s first circular product designed for recreational fishers.
Rather than relying on clean-ups, LoopFloat tackles ghost gear at its source, offering a durable, recyclable alternative to polystyrene.
LoopFloat’s story began with two major recovery projects – the Great Aussie Crab Pot Review and the Yabby Trap Round-Up where thousands of discarded pots and traps were dismantled and cleaned, with their material transformed into the new floats.
We’re very grateful to the Banksia Foundation and judging panel for recognising the value of this work — and proud to stand alongside other finalists working toward a more circular, sustainable future.
